Dendracalamus minor ‘Amoenus’
Ghost bamboo is a large ornamental bamboo featuring powdery white grey culms and big tropical leaves. Ghost bamboo will naturally grow up to 8 metres in height but can be easily trimmed down in height in need. Keep in mind it is a beautiful canopy shaped bamboo, so trimming it too short can impact the integrity of its shape.
It has a natural wide canopy shape, meaning the top is much wider then the footprint, similar to a big tree. In shady positions it tends to have minimal branching down low, but in full sun can be bushy from about 1mtr upwards. The natural footprint size of the clump is 2mtrs with the canopy spreading up to 4-6mtrs wide outwards. This wonderful species can be planted into narrower garden beds or maintained smaller to suit your needs, down to a minimum of 1mtr (root barrier recommended in this circumstance). Plant as a single feature or a dense screening solution. Planted closer together, they will grow more upright.
N.B. – Ghost Bamboo is not recommended in wind affected areas. The foliage will shred on the windward side and the plant will look quite bedraggled.
The approximate size of bamboo is only a guide. Plant measurements are taken from the bottom of the pot.
The sizing of plants does vary, particularly through different seasons of the year.
The most valuable part of the bamboo is the rootball size within the pots, which produces incredibly fast growth once planted.
